Dr. Richard Berg has been in the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Plainview since 1971. He started the practice with Dr. John Garizio who left oral surgery practice in 1985. Dr. Berg was joined in practice by Dr. Kenneth Morris in 1976, Dr. Barry Bass in 1985, Dr. Peter Scharfenberger in 1990, Dr. James Dolin in 1991, Dr. Tracey Rosenberg in 2005 and Dr. David Jurman in 2006. In 1990, Drs. Berg, Morris and Bass purchased an oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in Massapequa Park from Dr. Eugene Friedman, one of the original oral surgeons on Long Island. At that time, Dr. Peter Scharfenberger, who had been practicing with Dr. Friedman for aproximately fifteen years, joined the practice full time The original name of this practice was South Shore Oral & Maxillofacial Associates. The name was changed in 1995 to Massapequa Oral & Maxillofacial Associates, LLP.
Plainview Oral & Maxillofacial Associates, PC and Massapequa Oral & Maxillofacial Associates, LLP are involved in the office and hospital care of patients requiring oral and maxillofacial surgery. The doctors are on hospital staffs at North Shore University Hospitals at Manhasset, Plainview and Syossetat, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and Stony Brook University Hospital as well as serving as consultants at numerous nursing homes and health related facilities. The doctors are involved in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery resident training program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine.
